Chelsea Lake (she/her/hers)

Executive Director

Chelsea first encountered The YES Camp back in 1999 as a participant in the program. Her profound and transformative experience inspired her to pour her time and energy into The YES. She worked as a volunteer, summer student and administrator before becoming Camp Director in 2009. Having worked with thousands of youth through The YES Camp, classroom workshops and Change it Up! program, Chelsea feels honoured to be able to support and witness the formation of life-changing communities and relationships with The Youth Excellence Society. Her work with the program inspired her to complete her Master of Education in Leadership Studies at the University of Victoria. She brings to The YES a rich history with the organization as well as masterful facilitation skills and a deep knowledge of leadership and education.

Lauren Sortome (they/them/theirs)

In 2008, Lauren came to The YES as a participant from 100 Mile House and experienced a life-changing week at The YES, which offered new perspectives, skills, and relationships. They started volunteering with the program in 2010, and become a Creative Director in 2015. Facilitating with The YES was the catalyst to them pursuing teaching as a career. Lauren credits their expertise as an educator to the many role models they were mentored by at The YES. Recently, over the course of three years, Lauren taught STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) workshops in schools in every province and territory, honing their classroom practice. Lauren took on the Program Director role through 2019 and 2020 and is now working part-time as they pursue a Bachelor of Education, specializing in math and chemistry.
