Update: June 1st

On May 27th, Dr. Bonnie Henry verbally lifted the ban on overnight summer camps, however many safety regulations and logistical plans need to be put in place before The YES can commit to overnight programming. Should overnight camps still not be possible for The YES, we encourage you to review our other programs below. We're working hard to plan an awesome summer and hope to provide an update by mid-June. We appreciate your patience!

The YES offers summer camp programs for 14-18 year olds. Expand your leadership and team building skills while connecting with youth from around the province. Experience a summer camp like no other. We recognize that COVID-19 and other associated social issues have impacted our youth in many different ways, and look forward to providing community spaces that focus on building leadership, resiliency, connection, mental wellness and more.

Roots Camps

What is Roots?  Roots is the first level of The YES program, for youth finishing grades 8-10. Roots focuses on bringing together youth from all over the province and creating a strong, supportive, amazing community with everyone involved. Participants can expect to spend a week together being themselves, learning about themselves, and making lifelong friends in the process. Focusing on the values of self-awareness, communication, leadership and co-operation, this program is a powerful introduction to youth empowerment and self-reflection. Roots is for new participants, or participants who have completed one Roots level camp in-person and have just finished grade 8 or 9.

Roots Virtual Program: This is our virtual program, consisting of 5 online days, with each day approximately eight hours (breaks included). With a maximum of 25 participants, we look forward to creating an inclusive online space to learn and have fun in. This program is great for those who are looking for a more accessible way to experience YES Camp without physically travelling to destinations, and to still create meaningful connections. Mandatory sessions will take place from approximately 10AM-3PM, and 7PM-10PM.

Roots Hybrid Program: We are offering two Roots Hybrid Programs. This program consists of five programmed days that occur in-person and online. Please note that this is not an overnight program, and, instead, a day camp program for participants to commit to five days of programming. This program will have a maximum capacity of 30 participants, and we will be social distancing according to BC regulations. Masks may be required for some activities, and participants are welcome to wear them for the entirety of days should they choose to. In-person sessions will take place approximately between 10AM and 4PM. The group will reconnect virtually from 7PM-10PM.

Please note: Participants must have completed grade 8 before attending The YES. For in-person programming, participants must not experience any symptoms of COVID-19 two weeks prior to program commencement. The above time slots for activities are may be subject to change based on programming.

Pathways Camps

What is Pathways? Pathways is designed for returning campers finishing grades 10-12, as well as new campers finishing grade 11 or 12 who are ready to jump into our advanced program. Pathways is the next step up from our Roots programs. Participants are challenged to expand their leadership, self-awareness, and team building skills in a spirit of fun and friendship. This camp gives participants a chance to become an even closer community, having already met each other at the Roots level.

Pathways Virtual Program: Our virtual Pathways consists of of 5 online days, with each day approximately eight hours (breaks included). With a maximum of 25 participants, we will be creating an inclusive online space to solidify connections with ourselves and others, collaborate as leaders in the making, and have fun in distanced ways! Mandatory sessions will take place from 10AM-3PM, and 7PM-10PM.

Leadership Cohort Program: Our Leadership Cohort will consist of a three week long program, meeting up virtually twice a week. In these meetings, we'll connect about big picture ideas that will develop us as leaders, and offer a Level One Leadership Certificate for those who complete it. Youth will be able to create life-lasting bonds with their fellow participants through activities like games nights, reflections, and fun activities. This program is intended for participants who have completed a standard Pathways program, newly hired staff, and those 17-20 years old. Participants may be expected to read into external educational material on their own time. Further information about this program will be announced at a later date.

Location: Virtual programming will take place on online platforms such as Zoom, as well as other communication softwares depending on specific programming and workshops. Hybrid programming will be in a main location for both the Lower Mainland (Camp Capilano) and Vancouver Island respectively, and on virtual platforms for some workshops and activities. Some in-person programming may occur in a different location, however schedules will be provided in advance, alongside travel plans and bus options.

Transportation: Dependent on registrants and public health regulations, we may be able to offer transportation options in the form of a school bus or carpooling. We will be in touch and share updates when able.

Roots Lower Mainland: Programming will take place at Camp Capilano, located in North Vancouver. Participants will be asked to travel to and from this location daily for 4-5 days, and to reconnect virtually in evenings. Some activities may occur in other locations depending on programming, such as a beach day, kayaking, hike, etc.

Roots Island: Our Vancouver Island program will require 3 in-person days at multiple locations between Victoria and Nanaimo. All programming is intended and designed to be accessible to participants, and, based on registrants, more specific locations will be announced as the summer approaches. Registrants should be ready to transport themselves to the three in-person sessions, with the remaining two days and all evenings virtual.

With ongoing health and safety guidelines, The YES will not be able to facilitate traditional week-long overnight camps at this time. We recognize that this may change, and, if so, we will be sure to update you and our programs.

We are excited to share that our 2021 programming for the start of summer includes virtual camps, and weeklong day camps for youth in BC. You can find descriptions below for which programming suits your child best and which is most accessible. If you have any questions, please reach out to us at
